My Journey from Wilderness Guide to Therapist

The truth is, I never intended to be a therapist; the vocation found me. Sometime in my 20's I happened upon The Book of the Vision Quest written by Steven Foster and Meredith Little. Halfway through I knew for sure that I would go on a Vision Quest, and I did, by myself, and it was the hardest thing I had ever done, but I was hooked. Shortly after, in 2012, I shared my experience with a group of high school students where I teach, and they asked if they could partake in the same thing, and I said, "uh...sure!" So I went on another Vision Fast with the School of Lost Borders, so I could learn how they approached this ceremony. This started a journey of leading rites of passage, Vision Fast ceremonies for high school students, and then adults, which I still offer today.

The depth and intensity of people's stories, struggles, trauma and grief which was shared on the Vision Fasts pushed me to want to pursue a degree in clinical mental health. I told myself at the time that I just wanted the letters after my name that said I knew something about working with people in this way. What I didn't expect is upon completion of my degree, that I would absolutely fall in love with being a therapist. I love all aspects of my work, from training and learning (I'm fully trained in EMDR and currently training in Somatic Experiencing), to working with my clients every day. I can't imagine a more fulfilling or life giving job, and I feel truly blessed to be able to offer the work I do.

Right now I have only a few spots left open for new clients, as most folks I work with I see for an extended period of time. If you are seeking a therapist who is truly attuned to you throughout the session, who is capable of working with complex and attachment trauma and helping you regulate your nervous system, and who can help you not only build skills to manage life, but make lasting positive change and transformative growth, consider reaching out to talk.
